It was reported by Francys Romero earlier this month the Boston Red Sox, along with the Arizona Diamondbacks, LA Dodgers, and the New York Mets were scouting young Japanese phenom pitcher Roki Sasaki. Now, a new team has entered the mix per Jim Bowden; the New York Yankees.

“Dodgers, Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, and Diamondbacks all committed significant resources to scout him this month, including sending top executives to see him pitch.”

Sasaki is the genuine article, as he has proven to be an ace on elite levels. Sasaki played in and helped win the World Baseball Classic for Japan, and posted a 3.52 ERA against some of the best players in the world.

In his past four seasons in the NPB, Japan’s highest level of professional baseball, Sasaki has a career ERA of 1.95, and he was also the youngest pitcher in NPB history to throw a perfect game.

There is a chance he doesn’t get posted this year to the MLB market, but if he does, the Sox would be stupid to not be all-in on him.
