Being teammates with Travis Kelce does have its perks. Apart from the fact that one gets to suit up for one of the top teams in the NFL today, being a member of the Chiefs also means having the opportunity to meet Taylor Swift.
This was somewhat the case for former Chiefs recruit Louis Rees-Zammit, who had a brief spell with the two-time defending champions ahead of this current season.
Reese-Zammit, who is a former professional rugby player who has represented his home nation of Wales at the international level, signed with the Chiefs this offseason after competing in the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program.
Things did not pan out as expected for the 23-year-old with the Chiefs, though, and he ended up missing the cut as the team finalized its 53-man roster for 2024.
However, Reese-Zammit did not leave the team without an encounter with Taylor Swift. In a recent interview with RugbyPass, the former Gloucester Rugby winger revealed how he received a letter from the megastar singer/songwriter before the season started.
“This was before training camp so it was just like, ‘Good luck for the season. Good luck for training camp. I heard you’re doing well,’ stuff like that,” Reese-Zammit recounted. “So, that was pretty cool.
“That was pretty crazy, you know, getting a letter from Taylor Swift. But that was kind of the life I was in, and I was just rolling with it,”
The Welsh athlete clearly appreciated the message of encouragement from Swift, who, unfortunately, he did not get to meet in person. The fact that the “Fortnight” singer went out of her way to write a note to someone she hadn’t even met does speak volumes about her, though.
Reese-Zammit is now with the Jacksonville Jaguars after signing as part of the team’s practice squad. He has yet to make his NFL debut, but it appears that he already has a fan in Taylor Swift.
