Angel Reese is not staying loyal to the WNBA

One of the most exciting rookie seasons in WNBA history was enjoyed by Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese.

Before a wrist injury prematurely terminated her season and let MVP A’Ja Wilson surpass her, Reese shattered the records for consecutive double-doubles and single-season rebounds.

Even her double-double record with Athlon Sports was mentioned by Reese.

“I’m truly not focused on my individual accolades,” Reese said. “I’m always focused on our team and what we need to do collectively to win.”

Reese is leaving the WNBA when her first season is up in order to play in more games elsewhere. She was questioned by Athlon over her position in the brand-new Unrivaled three-on-three league.

“I’m excited for the league’s first season!” Reese proclaimed.

“It’s amazing to be a part of a league that gives equity to players. I’m looking forward to playing with the best athletes and really using the time to focus on my game and getting better too.”

Reese’s decision to play in the Unrivaled is obviously definitive. The WNBA obviously has no control over its stars’ decision to play in other leagues, but it won’t be pleased with one of its best talents jeopardizing injury out of season or the example it may set for future stars.

After departing for the Unrivaled, it will be intriguing to watch whether Reese and other players choose not to rejoin the WNBA.
