Serena Williams Shares Weight Training Workout: ‘Back into the Swing of Things’

Serena Williams is settling into a routine at the gym. Since delivering her second child in August, Williams, 42, has gradually resumed working out – and sharing the process for her 17 million Instagram followers.

 

The retired tennis star’s latest video shows her performing barbell squats with a lesser weight than normal. “Alright, I’m getting back into the swing of things,” the 23-time Grand Slam champion said in her Jan. 26 Instagram Reel, which had hip-hop musician Don’s “My Name Is” as the soundtrack. “This is not my usual weight, but it’ll do until I get back to where I need to be.”

 

After a few squats, Williams laughed and said, “Feels good,” before returning the barbell to the rack and exclaiming, “Woo!” The video was released five months after Williams gave birth to daughter Adira River, her second child with husband Alexis Ohanian, a software entrepreneur.

 

They had their first daughter, Alexis Olympia, in 2017. The seven-time Wimbledon winner frequently films videos and photographs of herself during exercises. In a December 26 Instagram caption, she joked about how much time she spent snapping selfies.

 

“I spend 50% of my time in the gym taking selfies,” Williams tweeted. “Trying to find that ideal angle, the one that makes me seem snatched 😫. “Well, I found that angle, so don’t look at me sideways in person, I’m a tad thicccker lol 😂.”

 

Aside from this squatting video, Williams recently shared an inner thigh exercise on Jan. 12 set to Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” and an outdoor stroll on Dec. 30. Her daughters occasionally join her for workouts.

 

In October, just two months after giving birth, Williams shared a photo of herself performing an ab exercise with a tiny assistant at her side. “Olympia is watching me try to get my ab muscles working again,” she said in the post. “Here comes fitness!”
