The Secret Service Has Clarified Its 'Threat' To Travis Kelce

During a recent podcast appearance, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce joked that the Secret Service threatened to tase him if he got too close to President Joe Biden and the podium.

“When I walked in, we had about four or five Secret Service members come up to me and tell me, ‘You know if you go up to that podium we’re authorized to tase you,'” Kelce said.

Kelce said that’s why he cut his podium moment short. “That’s all that was going through my head. I had no idea that President Biden was going to ask me to come up and let me have my moment. I had no idea…I felt taser aimed at me when I was up there the whole time,” he added.

Clearly not everyone believed he was joking about the moment because the Secret Service felt like it needed to put out a statement making clear they weren’t serious about the threat.

“Our agents and officers were happy to support Travis and the Chiefs’ official visit to the White House, even presenting him with a Secret Service pin,” Secret Service spokesperson Nathan Herring said, via Yahoo.

“As for the taser comment, Travis and our personnel were having some friendly banter as we have passionate football fans throughout our organization.” Kelce and the Chiefs hope they can make a third straight trip to the White House next year.
